‘Vague Precision’ by Georgia Merritt

24th May - 7th June. On view at M. Kardana, 188A Hackney Rd E2 7QL

M. Kardana presents “Vague Precision”, a series of nine works by Georgia Merritt. In her debut show, Merritt combines a structuralist and architectural approach to sculpture and on the surface, explores traditional decorative techniques. The objects in this show examine varying degrees of tangibility: where solid structures embody speculative and transient senses, and diagrammatic representations anticipate their physical counterparts.

For Merritt, the distinction between fine art and design is less important, and sees the pieces on a horizontal plane:

“There isn’t really a difference between a sculpture and any piece of furniture… for me all the works in the show bear the same poetic function.”

Georgia Merritt (b. 1997) is a London-born artist. Graduating from Goldsmiths BA (Hons) Fine Art 2020, her practice intermediates fine art, furniture design and more archaic decorative practices. Having been hired as a specialist decorator post art-school, Merritt found coincidental synergy between the trompe l’oeil faux marble techniques she learnt on the job and her own approach to painting, while continuing to develop her research-based art/design practice.

All pieces are for sale. Please email info@mkardana.com for price list, availability and any other enquiries.
